Event Update

Today we got up at 4:30 am to drive up to Brevard County for a boat trip on the river with Wildside Tours. It was totally worth the insanely early hour. If you chose not to GOYB, here is what you missed (click to enlarge pictures):

This could be one of my favorite pictures that I've ever taken. The pelicans just look so happy! They know the joy of getting off their butts!
This was an interesting little scene. You can compare and contrast the laughing gull with the bonaparte's gull (check out the leg color and black eye patch on the bonaparte's) and you can also compare the royal to the caspian tern (the caspian has that honking big heavy beak.)
Two pelicans, looking majestic.
A pelican flying. I just liked the composition of this picture.
Two pelicans watching two great blues with a younger great blue between them. There is a story here.
My HFC, and tour guide for the day, David.
An anhinga, seriously in the mood for loving. I don't know...  if I was a girl anhinga, I'm not sure if blue mascara is really the thing that would get my motor revving.
I love ospreys. They just have such a head full of attitude.
 A green heron.
A laughing gull, in the mood, and a pelican.
Just an anhinga, but I really liked this picture.

This was a great day out with Wildside Tours. I just tagged along today, but I would love to set up an official DeeMotivation tour with them.  It would be a paid trip (as you know, most DeeMotivation events are free) but I really thought it was a blast and well worth paying for. If you think you might be interested in doing this as an official DeeMotivation event, drop me an email.

Event Update

If didn't choose to GOYB,  you missed an amazing walk out at the Vero Wastewater Treatment Wetlands. Lots of birds in breeding plumage. Heather, Ibrahim and I had a great 2 mile walk out there. Here's what you missed (click to enlarge):

Lots of birds in the "mood" today. Here is a little blue heron with thoughts of loving on his mind (you can tell by the much brighter color on his bill.)
This was an interesting scene - great egrets, an immature night heron, and a grackle. We went back and forth on the night heron, but David confirmed it.
A white ibis, also totally in the mood for loving. I am quite glad I don't turn colors every time that I'm in the mood.
The same white ibis flying off.
A momma, daddy and wittle bitty baby sandhill crane.
I called this as a sora when I first saw it, then second guessed myself out of it. Then David confirmed that yes, it really was a sora. A cool bird, this picture doesn't do it justice.
We saw lots and lots and lots of marsh bunnies. This one was a poser.
A cattle egret. This is a simple little bird, but I just think they are too adorable.

Now tell me, did you see ANYTHING like this while sitting on your couch today? I seriously doubt you did. Join us on our next outing and see more spectacular stuff!

Day3

I am on day 3 without sugar... Getting weaker by the minute... Trying not to go into the light...

Ok, it's not really that bad, but I have a headache and am really, really crabby.

A Challenge!

So, my trainer, I think in attempt to kill me, has challenged me to go sugar-free for 21 days starting today. It's been 12 hours, and I haven't killed anything yet, but the day is still young. Feel free to harass me and check up on me to keep me honest, I'm gonna need it! I will keep a tally on the front page of the blog where I keep the milage update. If you don't see an update,  you will know I have something to hide! :-)

Event Update: Sampson Island

If you didn't choose to GOYB this weekend, you missed some spectacular sights! Here's what you missed (click to enlarge pictures):

 Baby Great Horned Owls!
 The mama Great Horned Owl!
 An Osprey washing her feet...
... before returning to the nest...
to snuggle the baby Osprey!

It was an awesome day, I got to lead trips, meet lots of great people, and of course get some fresh air an exercise. Join me at my next event. Let me know if you have any suggestions, I'm always up for suggestions, as long as it is off my butt!

Event Update: Malabar Scrub

So, I decided to go walking somewhere different this week. If you chose not to GOYB, here is what you missed at Malabar Scrub this week:

I know what this is but  it's late and I'm tired and can't think of his name to save my soul.

This is a northern flicker. I never had one pose for me before and therefore never realized how pretty they are. They have  bright yellow arm pits.

This is just a Mockingbird, but they are still one of my favorites, I think they are really pretty.

A Great Egret hunting on the bank.

Hope to see you at one of my future events!

Great day at the ELC

Getting off your butt doesn't always have to involve long hikes or marathons. Case in point, today I had a great day at the ELC showing off ospreys (both the puppet and the real one who was hanging out in the nest). Thanks to everyone who came down to the festival and listened to me yack about ospreys, and
thanks to Heather for the picture:
