What is This?

Welcome to the Official Self-Propelled 1000 Mile Challenge Page! Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to traverse 1000 miles before Jan 1, 2014, using any self-propelled method you want. You can bike, walk, kayak, row in the gym, use a treadmill or elliptical machine, heck, use a pogo stick! Just make sure you track your mileage.

I track my mileage in a few ways:
  • If I'm in the gym, I trust the mileage on the machine, then record it on my iphone using Evernote, which is a simple note taking utility. I'm sure there are more efficient ways to do it, but that's what I'm used to.
  • If I'm on a measured trail or course, I usually use my Garmin to verify that the measurement is correct, then just record in Evernote.
  • If I'm on a new or unmeasured trail, I trust the Garmin, then download the milage to my Mac every now and then.
Every week I will update this page with the total mileage from both my Garmin and Evernote. If you want me to track yours here too, please let me know. If you'd rather keep your progress private, that's cool too, although I think it will be fun to see where everyone is!

I have also started a "map" of my mielage. It gets boring putting miles on in the gym, so although the miles will be accurate, the details might be fictional. For those of use who are in the gym or on a track, I encourage you do something similar. Don't let yourself get bored, let your imagination take you places!
